This Is What
Pride Looks Like!

The service of celebration for the life of recently retired CCHS Principal Glen Ringstaff will be held today, Wednesday, May 16th at 1:00 p.m. in the Community Activities Building (CAB).  The students and staff of CCHS, as well as others in the district and the community, will certainly miss Mr. Ringstaff's leadership and smile.  He definitely exemplified what pride looks like!

CCHS has been recognized as one of the Best High Schools in a recent U.S. News & World Report ranking.  They evaluated nearly 22,000 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia.  Schools were awarded gold, silver, or bronze medals based on state proficiency standards, how well they prepare students for college, and other factors.  The above screenshot was taken from the report and the two columns to the right represented the student/teacher ratio and the college readiness factor.  To find out more, visit this site.  Congratulations, students and staff of CCHS on this recognition!

2012 Governor's Scholars

The Governor's Scholars Program is a summer residential program for outstanding high school students in Kentucky who are rising seniors.  The program originated in 1983 and students selected attend the program free of charge.  The core curriculum for the summer sessions is threefold: a focus area, which is a major subject of study; general studies, an area of study assigned by the staff to challenge the scholars; and a seminar, which is a discussion-based small group session.  A variety of speakers and performers from a wide range of disciplines and pursuits are also invited to the campuses where the program is held.  Field trips, special events and film series may also be a part of the curriculum.

To participate in the program, students must be nominated by their high schools and compete on a state-wide level.  Selection for the program is highly competitive and involves an application process similar to prestigious colleges and universities.  Caldwell County High School is proud to announce five students have been selected to be 2012 Governor's Scholars.  Pictured, left to right, are: Paige H., Anna L., Emily W., Ian B., and Lesley G.  Congratulations to these students!
